Before the Lady Bicycle

Before the Lady Bicycle – Framed Vintage Humor Art

Some vintage photographs tell a story.

Others leave you wondering exactly what was going through everyone's mind.

Before the Lady Bicycle pairs a wonderfully awkward vintage-inspired cycling scene, based on an old photograph, with the perfectly sarcastic line:

“And then, some freakin idiot invented the ‘lady bicycle"

In the scene, a young man appears to be helping steady the bicycle while the lady carefully attempts to climb aboard. But it is his gaze that really makes the image. While she is completely focused on the difficult task of getting onto the bicycle, he seems just a little too interested in the proceedings.

Perhaps he is studying her technique.

Perhaps he is making sure she does not fall.

We will let you decide.

Either way, what should have been a simple bicycle ride has somehow become a two-person operation.

She is concentrating.

He is watching.

And the bicycle is winning.

The mostly black-and-white artwork captures the look and character of an old photograph, while the words “lady bicycle” are highlighted in red for a subtle pop of color.

The 4" × 6" artwork is paired with a warm cream mat and displayed behind glass in a substantial dark bronze and antiqued silver-tone frame. The aged character of the frame works beautifully with the vintage image and gives the piece the feeling of an amusing little discovery from another era.

Funny, unexpected, and just a little irreverent, Before the Lady Bicycle is the kind of artwork people stop to read, study the scene for another second, notice the gentleman's gaze—and then laugh.

Perfect for cyclists, bicycle collectors, vintage art fans, or anyone who appreciates a little humor tucked into a scene from another era.
